The Firm has a broad and extensive Construction Law Practice in Montana and adjacent states. Over the past 20 years, the firm has represented owners, contractors, sub-contractors, suppliers, lenders, insurance carriers, sureties and other parties in a variety of transactional and litigation matters. In many of these cases, the firm has acted as local counsel for national construction companies and lenders. In others, the clients range from local and out of state second home owners, general contractors involved in substantial public projects, and insurance entities in a variety of complex construction matters.
Members of the firm have represented parties in construction related litigation, arbitrations and mediations throughout the states of Montana, Wyoming and North Dakota.
Our lawyers include the only attorney in the state of Montana nominated as a Fellow of the American College of Construction Lawyers, and an Adjunct Professor of the College of Engineering at Montana State University. The firm’s lawyers have particular expertise with construction issues in connection with oil and gas development in construction.
We also provide mediation and arbitration services, one of the members of our firm is both an experienced mediator and a panel member of the American Arbitration Association.
Several of our lawyers have been very active in the Montana State Bar Construction Law Section and are longtime participants in the Montana Construction Law Institute, a continuing legal education program for construction lawyers and other professionals. The Firm has a broad-based practice involving corporate and business law and business operations. This includes creating legal entities for a wide range of business purposes, ranging from active, ongoing businesses to those who acquire assets, such as real estate, for investment purposes. We work alongside accountants and tax experts to ensure our clients receive the best possible legal advice. This includes creating agreements between shareholders / owners with respect to new ownership, handling the withdrawal of existing owners, intra-ownership transfers, and the like. We are involved heavily with the creation of contracts for business purposes. The Firm has extensive experience in Montana employment law far beyond general employment matters. We have routinely assisted clients by drafting employment agreements, advising on employment matters, and litigating employment issues; either under the Montana Wrongful Discharge Act or employment contracts.
