Matt J. Kelly
Matt J. Kelly has a broad civil and commercial litigation practice with an emphasis on oil and gas law, construction litigation, and class actions. Matt regularly practices in state and federal courts in Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming.
In his oil and gas practice, Matt represents royalty owners, working interest owners, landowners, and governmental entities. He has represented clients in matters ranging from hundreds of dollars to tens of millions of dollars. These matters include transactional and litigation matters including leasing, surface use agreements, royalty payment issues, environmental damage matters, lease covenant breaches, and lease forfeiture.
In his construction litigation practice, Matt represents owners, contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, design professionals, and almost all other types of companies and individuals in the construction industry.
Through his other practices, Matt developed an interest and gained experience in class actions. He represents both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide variety of cases, ranging from oil and gas matters, to employment cases, to consumer protection cases.
Matt is currently on the Board of Forward Montana and was a co-founder of the Wyoming Conservation Corps. He has published articles relating to the construction industry. He has also presented several times on topics relating to both construction and also oil and gas law. Matt is an AV Rated lawyer and has been recognized as a Mountain States “Super Lawyer” in Construction Law.
Matt received his JD from the University of Wyoming, with honors, in 2007 and has an undergraduate degree in Accounting from Montana State University.
Prior to starting in private practice, Matt proudly served one year as a term clerk for the Honorable Alan B. Johnson in the Wyoming Federal District Court.
